Boston-Area Tournament
22-24 April 2005
Saturday Strategy Seminar
"A Passion to Play and Prevail"
His therapeutic sessions usually last 45 minutes; for Scrabble players
likely longer. Richard Selchow called him "Mr. Scrabble." Others referred
to him as "the Johnny Apleseed of Scrabble," having planted many seeds and
nourished the game since 1980: fostering the growth of clubs and tournaments
nationally and internationally, advocating the initiation of a World
Championship, the change of the National Championship to an Open event, and
the start of a School Scrabble program. A charter inductee into the Matchups
Hall of Fame, his Wordbook (1988) was, as the Denver Post proclaimed: "a
red-letter day in Scrabble history....This book revolutionized the way people
looked at the game." Scrabble News added: "...the elixir of Scrabble. It might
more appropriately be called 'The Path to Scrabble Magic' or '100,000 Ways to
Reach the Hidden Heights of Scrabble Bliss.'" In Word Freak, Stefan Fatsis
enthused : "...a classic....It feels like I have found the secret to Scrabble
success....His lists were a revelation." Now, with the recent release of
The Complete Wordbook for Game Players: Winning Words for Word Freaks,
come join Mike Baron for a lively exchange of ideas with you on
"A Passion to Play and Prevail," offering to "compare notes" among ourselves
on why we play and how we may play better. He promises the bill will NOT be
in the mail after this therapeutic session.
[Note: Bring your Wordbooks with you for his signing. A limited number
will be available for purchase from Sherrie.]
This seminar will take place in the Westford Regency's Concord Amphitheater on
the second floor opposite the Westford Ballroom. Deluxe high-back, comfy chairs
are limited, so get there early!
