Newcomers (Sat only)
1099 and below
* The top-rated 19 players from A will play in Premier with the winner of the 2005 A division, Kenji Matsumoto (since Kenji is unable to come this year, we're inviting John Van Pelt, who finished 3rd in Division A in 2005-- David Koenig, who finished 2nd, is unable to attend).

Players in Divisions A, B, C, D, and newcomers will be assigned to divisions based on 1 April 2006 ratings.
Those within 100 points of the cutoff may play up at their request and the directors' discretion.
An important change from past BATs: Players will qualify for Premier based on peak ratings
from January 3rd to March 31st to determine division qualification.

Sherrie Saint John, 978.526.7876/
John Chew, 416.876.7675/

computer-paired by John with a modified Fontes Swiss-style system.
The 5-game early bird event will be either round robin or modified swiss with groups of 6-8 players.

We are celebrating the incredible 25th anniversary of BAT with an expanded 20-player Premier division playing a 20-round (RR+KOTH) schedule! The invitational Premier division will play their first five games on Friday afternoon alongside the open Early Bird (play begins at 12 noon sharp, arrive earlier to register please), and play the remaining fifteen games according to the main event schedule (three games Friday night, eight games Saturday, four games Sunday).

Qualification for the Premier division is based on standard NSA peak ratings from January 3rd to March 31st with a space reserved for Kenji Matsumoto, the winner of the 2005 BAT "A" Division. Since Kenji cannot come and 2nd place finisher, David Koenig, cannot attend this year, John Van Pelt, last year's 3rd place finisher, will play in Premier. (Interesting fact: the top four in last year's Division A, all finished with the same record, with spread alone making the difference from first place to fourth place!)

The Premier division will be closed to registration on 7 April 2006. Any players intending to play must register by this date. No exceptions.
